The ultimate Tarzan and Jane experience in Khao Sok National Park, Thailand

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to wake up in a tropical rainforest in your own tree house? This ultimate Tarzan and Jane feeling can be experienced in Khao Sok National Park, located in southern Thailand. Importantly, you can stay here for only €15 (1200 THB) a night!

About Khao Sok
Khao Sok National Park is one of the oldest rainforests of the world and is even older and more diverse than the Amazon Rainforest. This ancient landscape is known for its huge limestone mountains which can shoot straight up to 900 meters in the air.  In addition, it is covered by deep valleys, overwhelming lakes, exciting caves and is inhabited by a wide variety of wild animals. This jungle is the habitat of animals like tigers, black leopards, Malayan bears, wild elephants, snakes, gibbons, monkeys and many more.

How to get here?
Although the entrance of Khao Sok National Park is situated in a major rainforest, it can be reached relatively easy. Most people start their holiday in Thailand at the capital Bangkok. From Bangkok you can take the night train to Surat Thani (Southern line), which will take approximately 12 hours. Prices vary from €35 (private cabin sleeper with airco) to €18 (second class fan sleeper). From the Surat Thani train station you can take the bus to Khao Sok National Park or you can arrange a private transfer with your travel agent.

Where to sleep in a tree house and why?
At the entrance of Khao Sok National Park you can find the most bungalow resorts. During a trip to Thailand last year, we stayed in the Khao Sok Nature Resort. This resort is located in about 10-15 minutes from the entrance of the park and this makes it more distinctive, because you are not surrounded by other resorts. A really hospitable Thai family will welcome you and they make you feel like you are staying at their home. Moreover, their dishes are very delightful!

The 'motto' of the resort is ‘Khao Sok Nature Resort, back to the nature’. When you stay at this resort you can experience this ultimate thought. In the morning you wake up and only hear the restful noises of the jungle with an amazing view from the balcony. If you are lucky you will spot some monkeys, in occasion visitors of the resort.

Other relevant information
In the rain season, from June till November, Khao Sok is the most wet destination in Thailand. However, this does not have to be an obstacle for your holiday, because the rains are of short duration and the average temperature is about 28 degrees.

A recommendation while visiting Khao Sok is to do the ‘Cheow Larn Lake tour’, in the 'hart' of the forest with its floating raft houses. With this tour you will do a very interesting hike in the jungle and you will end at the beautiful lake. Other recommendations are elephant trekking, trekking on foot, canoeing and jeep safaris. All at affordable prices!

Khao Sok is a good stopover if you are heading to the beaches of southern Thailand. In our next blog post we will write about how to get from Khao Sok to one of the seven wonders of Thailand, with breathtaking beautiful beaches.
